Historicizing Intelligence – Tests, metrics and the shaping of contemporary society

A three-year research project from 2021 to 2024. Funded by the Research Council of Norway.

The project highlights some long-standing trends in the Norwegian and international history surrounding the development of IQ tests and examines the roles that IQ tests and related testing technologies have played and continue to play in society; within the educational system, the legal system, and as diagnostic tools for intellectual disabilities. The aim is to provide historical perspectives on what these technologies, practices, and concepts are, and what societal roles they have.

Our research

Research is one of the main activities of the Museum of University History. We aim to develop socially relevant research projects that combine MUV’s three tasks of managing, disseminating and researching the University’s historical legacy.

The Norwegian Conference on the History of Science

MUV was co-organizer of this conference, which brings together scholars working on the history of science, medicine and technology, welcoming researchers of all nationalities at all stages of their careers.
